Dangers of DIY
We understand how tempting it can be to try and remove your old tree stump yourself, but it can often cost you more time and money than hiring a professional. Stump grinding requires operating heavy machinery that has a powerful rotating blade. If you rent a stump grinder with no training or previous experience, you can put yourself and others in danger. You may also not remove enough of the stump to prevent the roots from growing, which can negatively impact your yard’s health.
You may also consider other DIY options, but they also come with their own risks that you should consider. If you plan on using a chemical solution to accelerate the decomposition process, you run the risk of harming surrounding plants and attracting unwanted pests.
How Our Stump Grinding Works
Start with a Consultation

Our Process
First, we make sure the area is safe. Any leftover rocks or other small objects could fly up and hit the operator or cause other damage. Our team will remove all obstacles and debris that could potentially get in the way of our stump grinding.
Once the area is clear, we then level the stump with a chainsaw. The closer to the ground, the better. This makes the stump grinding process easier and faster.
Then, once the stump is level, we use the stump grinder. A stump grinder is a special machine with a powerful rotating blade. One of our team members will lower the blade to the stump and move side to side, then back and forth. As the stump grinder works, it turns the stump into mulch.
We continue grinding until the stump is below ground level. How deep we grind the stump depends on its size, but it is generally 4 to 16 inches under the surface.
Once the stump grinding is complete, we clean the area by gathering the wood pieces or tiling them into the soil. We also offer you the option of using the leftover mulch in your yard.
To finish our job, we fill in the remaining hole with soil. Then we cover it with sod or seed so you can grow something new on top.
